Why does my ham weigh less after it has been sliced?
When we slice your ham we remove the Aitch-Bone, which weighs approximately 2 pounds. The Aitch-Bone has no meat on it and cannot even be used for seasoning. We include all eatable meat, including ham hocks and butt end pieces for seasoning. We also scrape each slice of ham to remove the bone marrow. This must be done to prevent bacteria from forming. The ham loses ¾ of a pound during this process. Your ham will weigh approximately 2-3 pounds less after the slicing process.
